Why the name 1 Dracma?

Finding something that was lost may seem simple. But anyone who has worked in a lost-and-found department knows that, for the person who lost it, an object can hold far more value than it appears to.

The name 1 Dracma was inspired by an illustration given by Jesus and recorded at Luke 15:8-10.

Jesus spoke about a woman who had ten drachmas and lost one. Rather than dismissing the loss because she still had nine, she lit a lamp, swept her house, and searched carefully until she found it. When she found the coin, she was so happy that she called her friends and neighbors to share her joy.

The choice of the drachma makes the illustration especially meaningful. A drachma was a Greek silver coin, worth approximately one day's wages. Those ten coins may also have formed a set of special value to the woman, perhaps connected with a family inheritance or worn as jewelry.

How we respond to what was lost

What inspires us most in this story is not the coin's monetary value. It is the attitude toward what was lost.

She notices what is missing. She cares. She searches carefully. And finding what was lost brings joy.

That idea is at the heart of 1 Dracma.

That is why 1 Dracma: a reference to something that was lost, searched for carefully, and finally found. Because finding matters.
